Go back with the backspace button! This extension re-enables the backspace key as a back navigation button -- except if you're writing text.

What's New in 3.0:

==================

* Updated to Manifest V3.

Before Chrome 52, the backspace key navigated back (if you weren't writing text). Many people lost their progress while working online by accidentally pressing backspace and leaving a page -- so we removed the feature from Chrome, and created this extension for those who prefer the old behavior.

This extension can't restore backspace on certain special pages, for example any of the "chrome://" pages such as Settings or Extensions.

Thank you so much! I really started missing the backspace functionality which I use all the time in navigating in Windows (file) explorer as well as Chrome. Now working consistent again.

1) Why the hell do I need an extension for a function that has been default for ages? 2) Ok, I can install it on my computers. What if I have to work on other people’s computers? 3) It doesn’t work if I browse html-files that are on my computer! Just make Backspace default again. Why should I suffer from dummies’ disabilities? You could offer a pop-up window with “You have filled in a form but not sent it. Leave this page or stay?” Actually, this function IS available in Chrome, so why the f* make another exhaustive function to protect unsent data????????

Google takes out basic functionality after 10 years of having it implemented. I guess it's too hard to add a checkbox and give us an option, right? It's actually unreal.

It should never have been removed. Glad Google gave it back, if in the form of an extension. Bottom line is that it's back. For those worried about the permissions, I'm not sure what the concern is all about. It's not a third-party extension. Google lives in Chrome and already has access to everything in the first place. You're not really granting them any more access than they already have. Be glad it's back and be glad that it's Google that gave it back not some other potentially snooping individual or company.
