Try h264ify if YouTube videos stutter, take up too much CPU, eat battery life, or make your laptop hot.
By default, YouTube streams VP8/VP9 encoded video. However, this can cause problems with less powerful machines because VP8/VP9 is not typically hardware accelerated.
In contrast, H.264 is commonly hardware accelerated by GPUs, which usually means smoother video playback and reduced CPU usage. h264ify makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.
Note: 4K and 1440p videos will not be available because YouTube no longer encodes those videos in H.264

It seems to be working just fine; I see "avc1.64002a (299) / mp4a.40.2 (140)" under "Codecs" in the "Stats for nerds" menu instead of that VP9 codec, but the option for anything playing at higher than 1080p 60 fps is gone (read: I can't watch 1440p, 4k and 8k videos).
Вроде бы нормально работает. Нагрузка на проц стала в 4 раза ниже, хоть и в качестве картинка немного теряет, но это переживаемо.
при включенном плагине нет разрешений выше 1080 в ютуб, загрузка процессора ниже, но и буфер меньше в 4 раза, смотреть в 4к расширение не помогает, приложение бесполезно!
Неоднозначно, когда галочка "включить" в плагине активна, загрузка всех 6 ядер cpu составила гдето по 20%, а если его выключить, то нагрузка более рваная но фактически раза в 4 меньше и больше на 1 ядро, остальные по 2-3%. Единственное, когда включено, картинка движется чуть плавней и приятней. Возможно на системах с аппаратным ускорением html плагин работает на кач-во, но не на производительность и экономичность. Youtube se ponia muy lag en videos a a 720p 60fps, cargaba bien pero se congelaba mucho. Esta extension lo arreglo al instante 10/10, ahora puedo ver incluso 1080p 60fps

Recently I've been having buffering issues while using h264ify. Until a few days back it worked fine, but now it renders most videos unviewable due to buffering issues. Removing the extension fixed the buffering issues. Still, it was good while it lasted. Works perfectly on older pcs
