Try h264ify if YouTube videos stutter, take up too much CPU, eat battery life, or make your laptop hot.

By default, YouTube streams VP8/VP9 encoded video. However, this can cause problems with less powerful machines because VP8/VP9 is not typically hardware accelerated.

In contrast, H.264 is commonly hardware accelerated by GPUs, which usually means smoother video playback and reduced CPU usage. h264ify makes YouTube stream H.264 videos instead of VP8/VP9 videos.

Note: 4K and 1440p videos will not be available because YouTube no longer encodes those videos in H.264

While it may prove useful on my Raspberry Pi, you must be careful as it will make 1440p and 4K options unavailable in chrome. This is not an issue when working from the device you wish to speed up, but if you're like me and sign into all of your devices, the extension carries over onto you desktop's chrome, where I watch much 4K youtube content. It took me a few days to realize I need to disable the extension if I want to watch anything over 1080p!

4K H.264 는 조물주 유튜브가 정책적으로 막았는데 확장 프로그램이 뭔 수로 지원? 정확히는 그렇게 쏴주질 않는데.. 적당한 똥컴에서 1080 돌리게 하는 고마운 프로그램

Every one should try this extension out. The YouTube stutter used to drive me crazy. I looked up online to fix the stutter, and some people tell me to "Turn off hardware acceleration". The disabled hardware acceleration didn't work so, I started to watch YouTube on my phone or edge more until, I came across a Reddit post that mentioned the extension so, I installed it, and everything was smooth. On some platforms, it will not work because those platforms do not have flash installed on them.

Even on an High-End Desktop 1080p60 Videos had a tendency to stutter. With this, it's gone. Great work, thanks.

Расширение не работает. что включено, что выключено, при воспроизведении 1080 на ютубе загруженность ~80% по 4 ядрам и не зависит от включенного расширения.

Attention grosse arnaque des que je l'ai mis impossible de lire de la 4k sur mon navigateur et ensuite je l'ai désactivé la 4k est revenu donc cette extension ne serre à rien !!!

Youtube was unwatchable at 1080 and was using almost 100% cpu Was stuck at 720 and even then would stutter and have audio clicks from time to time. Cpu is older but is still a Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6700. This addon brought cpu usage at 1080 from 90ish percent down to about 15 percent. Everything is fine now. Almost gave up on Chrome.

One of the best features of this extension is the "turning off" feature, this way I can only use it on my slow PC, while I can still watch 4k on my fast PC
