NewsGuard's reliability ratings for news and information sources help users make decisions about which news sources to trust—and avoid misinformation and disinformation.

Our ratings, scores, and Nutrition Labels for websites are displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms and cover all the news websites accounting for 95% of online engagement.

Ratings are conducted by a team of experienced journalists using nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Each site receives a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from “High Credibility” to “Proceed with Caution,” and a thorough Nutrition Label report detailing the site’s ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history.

Clear left leaning political bias. Does not account for shadow editing which is another contributor to partisan politics. Can clearly be used to reinforce an ideologues way of thinking. still going to use it, but it's still lacking and still non-centrist.

Newsguard is funded by mainstream media, you will find when using this addon that it has very strong left-leaning bias. It is a nice idea of an addon but unfortunately the desires and bias of the people who run it dictate what is marked as acceptable or not. You're better off deciding which news to read for yourself, newsguard is NOT non-partisan.

Thank you to NewsGuard for screening potential "news sources" for me. I am impressed with the procedure they use to assign ratings. Objective and factual. Thank you!

Since my computer is getting a little old, I was reluctant to download the NewsGuard plug-in. So I read their website carefully to be sure it was something I wanted and I've been so impressed (and I don't even notice it is there in terms of speed.) I really like how NewsGuard rates sites for responsible journalism (as opposed to individual articles being fact or fiction.) So now before I share a Facebook post, I can see if I should think twice about the article and possibly take a closer look. As I looked briefly at other reviews I was surprised some people find bias in their ratings. I saw on their website that their advisory board is half conservative and half liberal - and names you will recognize - which should show they are trying to be neutral. It's a product for our times. I recommend it highly!

This extension is well-designed and unlike other extensions I've tried out in the past, minimally invasive to my web browsing experience. It's so so helpful to have such a simple and intuitive way to gauge the accuracy of unfamiliar websites - particularly, it's become really useful in narrowing down reliable results when I'm skimming through results of my Google searches!

NewsGuard gives me the freedom to try out new news sources and feel confident doing so. It's the strongest measure against fake news that I've seen to date; we need it.

NewsGuard is an amazing extension. I told my students about it, and so many voluntarily installed the extension on their browser. The nutrition labels are so in-depth that my students talk about the credibility and transparency of their news sources now--and they have some guidance for their social media feeds. Teachers everywhere should be using this tool to teach media literacy skills. NewsGuard is way better than artificial intelligence since the labels don't censor but rather inform. Thanks NewsGuard for this great tool!
