NewsGuard's reliability ratings for news and information sources help users make decisions about which news sources to trust—and avoid misinformation and disinformation.

Our ratings, scores, and Nutrition Labels for websites are displayed next to links on search engines and social media platforms and cover all the news websites accounting for 95% of online engagement.

Ratings are conducted by a team of experienced journalists using nine basic, apolitical journalistic criteria. Each site receives a trust score of 0-100, an overall rating level ranging from “High Credibility” to “Proceed with Caution,” and a thorough Nutrition Label report detailing the site’s ownership and financing, content, credibility practices, transparency practices, and history.

Откровенно врущие новостные агенства такие как CNN и NYT (New York Trolls) отмечает как достойные доверия, за то те которые не угодны западу помечает как Fake News. Молодцы что тут еще сказать.

The extension seems to be dysfunctional, the red and green colors are reversed most of the time. You can easily see that the extension gives the green light to websites with some of the most notorious fabricated conspiracy theories - and the red light to some of the most reliable news sources out there.

As a typical American, I especially need to filter out all the fake news that might interfere with my comfortable world view. After I sit down and watch CNN and MSNBC with two beers, when I go online, and get bombarded with propaganda from Russia, I get so angry how these evil people are interfering with daily quest to educate myself about the world. Then the bots come, they actually try to tell me that the US funds terrorism, and the the CIA overthrew the government of some place called Ukraine, next thing the will tell me that Bill Browder is a criminal con-man, and not a heroic human rights campaigner. So now I can surf the strictly English language web, and never see any bad information ever again.

A proper look into the funding of this reveals all this app is doing is trying to protect mainstream media and shut down independent journalism. They give CNN a perfect rating regardless of the fact it has continually promoted false stories. There should really be a category showing which political side a news source leans. That way people can understand how they are being lied to or manipulated when they read the news. I only visit news sites that do not lean to any political side. Everything else is just manipulation of facts. A true, free and openly honest may be helpful, but this is just protecting MSM and it borders on being pathetic that someone would even create this because they are so upset about how much MSM is being exposed as horrible while alternative and independent media rises because people are simply becoming smarter and more critical in their thinking.

While this is a great answer to fake news, News Guard is only covering the larger news sites so that will only hurt smaller news sites as people will assume they aren't trustworthy. When you make claims of fighting fake news, you must cover all news sites equally no matter what their size is, otherwise, you're just promoting bigger sites much like Google does now. Many smaller news sites are breaking big stories that get picked up by CNN and MSNBC without getting much recognition. If News Guard is also going to ignore them, then it won't be able to live up to its lofty fight. All sites are equal no matter what size they are.
