The controls also block your view, which can get really annoying. Hyde is a simple Chrome extension that allows you to hide or show the video player controls easily.

Great extension made my life better! Possible improvement if considered so, try to add this functionality to embedded youtube videos to other pages and may be shortcut settings. Overall I regret I cant push 10 stars instead of 5
Works on edge but not out of the box, you have to go to edge://extensions/shortcuts and set the shortcut CTRL+M manually, also set it to 'In edge' rather than 'global'. that's how i managed to get it running in edge. PS: just copied someone's comment of copying someone's comment so new users can see this comment without scrolling through years of comments

I have 2 problem : 1. in bave browser you need to activate ctrl+m (could be ctrl/alt+anything) shortcut first yourself in extensions keyboard shortcut settings 2. I can only gave 5 stars here instead of 10
