Update: Chrome now has a built-in feature ("Copy Link to Highlight" in the context menu) to copy text fragment links. The extension has an additional feature that allows you to also copy rich links. You can activate this feature in the options.
This extension allows for easily creating a special link to the currently selected text on a page via the context menu. When opening such a special link, a compatible browser will scroll the selected text into view and highlight it.
Usage instructions:
• Select the text that you want to link to.
• Right-click and choose "Copy Link to Selected Text" from the context menu.
• If the link creation succeeded, the selected text will be briefly highlighted in yellow.

This has been invaluable for someone who is frequently needing to cite/share specific lines of text on otherwise gigantic pages (i.e. transcripts). However, I do wish the feedback was a little more descriptive or helpful when a link can't be created -- help me figure out how to make my selection!
I seem to remember this linking a (non text fragment) anchor for browsers that don't support text fragments, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, what happened with that?
Very useful but doesn't always work where you want it (inside PDF opened in browser for example) and insists on unique text (I'd be happy with first match).
Doesn't work on a lot of sites. Possibly an issue with the underlying Chrome functionality, but that's from Google too, so... (Don't tell me the problem is sites loading content asynchronously – that's what modern websites do! If you're going to create a feature like this, you have to account for that.)
Awesome!!
I had dreams about such a useful and sensical application, and am glad those dreams are now real. Now I can read long .txt webpages on Gutengberg and always be able to get back to where I was reading.
С появлением chrome://flags/#copy-link-to-text расширение больше не нужно
Really great time saver!!! Being able to shift the viewport of the browser and highlight text can shorten and strengthen your message. No more TLDR; 😁 Would have given 5 stars if the highlight wasn't lost when you reload the same URL. Maybe this is not the extension's fault and is a Chrome issue?
Does it only work if the URL is opened with chrome? Or does it work with firefox, safari, edge, etc... too?
not working
