This extension requires permissions to inject a piece of code in all of the pages you visit. If that freaks you out, that's ok. Handing over those permissions freaks me out too.
You can choose to install this extension from source (it's very short) to make sure it's not doing anything malicious.

Works great. This is the only thing that kept me from moving to a different browser. Shame on the Chrome team for screwing this up.
This works perfectly. It's a shame that people have to make extensions for such a simplistic feature. Why Google thinks doubling the key presses necessary to complete something as simple as going back to another page is beyond me, but luckily I wont have to switch to Firefox now. Thx Razvan Caliman!
Thank you!
Down with ALT+arrow and its annoyingness. Sudden update, no way to go back to traditional/original settings or even an option for a basic keyboard/shortcut remap like so many other programs and systems have, the inability to comfortably go back a page with one hand, the need to retrain a muscle movement for a function that's existed for literal years (I'm certain that the vast majority of programs have a BACKSPACE = go back function). Google has offered the reasoning of trying to delete input in word forms and accidentally going back a page and potentially losing all the data... and that has actually happened to me before. But this is far more annoying than that was. I used backspace to intentionally go back a lot more than accidentally going back. Google really needs an option for traditional settings or for user preferences. On some computers, ALT+arrows trigger something OUTSIDE of Chrome (like changing the screen orientation :^) ... ). Gj Chrome.

Does not work on incognito tabs/windows
So glad someone made this. Seriously I would have switched to Firefox if this App wasn't here.
It doesn't have a whitelist/blacklist mechanism. I pressed backspace in a game, and it went to the previous page.
Works like a charm!
It's OK, it works for the most part but for some reason it doesn't work at all on sites like YouTube (which is where I mainly need to jump back and forth and get most use out of this key). I don't know why it's broken (at least for me) on some sites. Everywhere else it's saving me from going insane trying to hit alt+<- on my laptop, which is a very awkward move for me. I just wish it worked everywhere.
