It will help you optimize your video viewing by allowing you to make quick playback speed adjustments, as well as rewind the video to hear the last few second one more time. We don't read at a constant speed, and we talk much slower than we read - there is no reason why we have to listen at a constant speed and at a (very) slow rate.
Once the extension is installed simply navigate to any page that offers HTML5 video, and you'll see a speed indicator in top left corner of the video player. Hover over the indicator to reveal the controls to accelerate, slowdown, or rewind the video (10 seconds + lowers playback speed). Or, even better, use your keyboard:
- S - decrease playback speed.
- D - increase playback speed.
- R - reset playback speed.

My original review from 2022 below is no longer valid. The latest update which has now been in place for over a month appears to have completely broken this plugin. The speed resets all the time. Dozens and dozens of user reports of this issue here in the reviews have all gone unanswered by the developer of this plugin. No response or updates. Hopefully this is fixed soon it was one of my favorite extensions and I had to disable it as it is totally useless now as others have pointed out as well. My five star review below is down to a 1 star today. I hope to update this in the future. If this is not updated I will code my own speed controller extension using Gemini which can now buildout these extensions for chrome It works! Tried it on Discovery Plus and works like a charm. I'm so used to watching higher speeds on youtube this is what I need for sites that don't natively support changing playback speed. Also like you can go in .10 increments if you need more granular tuning. 5 stars

Been using for 3ish year, such a good tool. I use it all the time, and it literally works on anything. It is most useful for sites that you cannot speed it up (mainly homework sites).
it super great however i find it difficult to watch things at 1x speed and this just won't work on bbc iplayer, when I first installed it it worked on everything but now it won't work on this particular website, which is upsetting as I want to watch the new doctor who episodes but i cannot
