It will help you optimize your video viewing by allowing you to make quick playback speed adjustments, as well as rewind the video to hear the last few second one more time. We don't read at a constant speed, and we talk much slower than we read - there is no reason why we have to listen at a constant speed and at a (very) slow rate.
Once the extension is installed simply navigate to any page that offers HTML5 video, and you'll see a speed indicator in top left corner of the video player. Hover over the indicator to reveal the controls to accelerate, slowdown, or rewind the video (10 seconds + lowers playback speed). Or, even better, use your keyboard:
- S - decrease playback speed.
- D - increase playback speed.
- R - reset playback speed.

I cannot get this to work in my companie's virtual platform. They are all HTML 5 videos. https://virtual.companyname.com/video/117119061 . for example. I.e. using the video tag so they are HTML5. It WILL work for Facebook, but I need it for this virtual platform. I also cannot get the shortcuts to work even in FACEBOOK.

Not working on Chrome Canary 71.0.3557.0. But it's really fine on regular Chrome. Keep the good job :)
I've been using this plugin for years and while some sites reset your speed, or layer multiple players which makes it difficult to control the speed, those things are not issues with the plugin itself. Being able to adjust the step to 0.25 is awesome as is listening to slow talks at 3 or 4x speed on YouTube or Lynda instead of their limited 2x. Speeding through commercials (works on some sites, not all) is nice, but as an animator, slowing down a section of a tutorial that was too fast to notice what they're doing, or a section of video where I want to try to do something similar or just appreciate it, is priceless.
