It will help you optimize your video viewing by allowing you to make quick playback speed adjustments, as well as rewind the video to hear the last few second one more time. We don't read at a constant speed, and we talk much slower than we read - there is no reason why we have to listen at a constant speed and at a (very) slow rate.
Once the extension is installed simply navigate to any page that offers HTML5 video, and you'll see a speed indicator in top left corner of the video player. Hover over the indicator to reveal the controls to accelerate, slowdown, or rewind the video (10 seconds + lowers playback speed). Or, even better, use your keyboard:
- S - decrease playback speed.
- D - increase playback speed.
- R - reset playback speed.

Works great! For YouTube specifically, I still use ImprovedTube (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/improve-youtube-open-sour/bnomihfieiccainjcjblhegjgglakjdd), since it has more features. But I use this extension for controlling playback speed on all the other sites with html5 players (I just added youtube.com to its domain-exclusion list so I don't have two playback-speed helpers there).

It's one of the most useful apps out there to the point that I immediately install in every new browser! It has made binge watching so much easier and less time-consuming. Notable side effects: I get accustomed to the fast speaking and then everything seems so slow!
It was the best extension I've ever installed, but stopped working properly in 2019. It's a shame. The extension icon doesn't show anymore in most sites.
it would be 5 stars if this extension can remember the speed for each individual sites, or at least something that allows us to group sites for a set speed. I want most youtube videos to play at 1.3x for example but I do not want twitter/facebook and other sites to speed up. too bad this extension doesn't have what I'm looking for.
Video plugin works great for content like Netflix or other site with embedded video.
If I had this extension before I watched 1,720 movies, it would have saved me 690 hours - or nearly a month of my life.
I absolutely adore this extension and I have it for both Chrome and Firefox. I can't imagine ever watching videos at 1x ever again. It makes watching videos (Youtube, Netflix) much, much, MUCH more tolerable. Disabling it for streaming sites is easy and straightforward.
