It was a great product until Google disabled texting. Why even have it anymore if I cannot respond to text message?
The Google brand used to mean quality you can count on. Now it means take your chances. Do not rely on anything Google produces because they don't maintain it. After they abandoned Hangouts I found the Google Voice extension for texting. Now that doesn't work for outgoing texts. Have to open the web site to return text messages. Windows notifications never worked, although there's an option for that. What have you done for me lately Google? Besides making us watch commercials. Obviously you're cashing the checks. Do the work.
Don't usually write reviews - but for the past 2-3 days - this hasn't been working. Bummer. Although the website works. I prefer the extension.
If you're involved in sales, Voice and Hangouts are a must have. I kept the two apps segregated, but Google offers both, Hangouts and Voice in a single app. You absolutely will prosper in sales. regardless of your service or product and have more time to spend a l l that money!
I've been using this extension forever. However, recently there was an upgrade that crashed it. Now you can no longer send messages only receive them. Hopefully, google fixes this but I'm not seeing anything suggesting it.
I used this for years. According to the other reviews this is another TOTAL BLUNDER by Google. They are screwing things up lately. I'm about one more annoyed change away to switching to Edge and Bing. I can't believe I am saying it because I have been a Google advocate for over a decade, but when a company keeps making their products worse, I will go elsewhere... :-(
I love GV but for the last few days the extension has been acting up. It is not updating with current information nor allowing to send text from it. I have to literally go to the online site to get work done with GV. This a HUGE inconvenience HUGE!!
The Google Voice extension for Chrome is being phased out. The extension currently will receive but not send messages. To send, open Google Voice web page when on the desktop. On that web page, you can send and receive, as well as call, etc. While I do not mind the new Google Voice UI, I continue to want an extension on Chrome that enables sending of messages. I like it having the link on the bottom of the extension to the Voice web page. I often use that for conversations that require more than yes/no. Quite frankly, I think it's rather old-school to not have an extension for the browser that links to the page. It truly makes no sense for a company to not encourage speed, efficiencies, and less memory usage via an extension.
July 30, 2019: Google seems to have let this die. Can no longer send Google Voice texts through the extension. Edit Oct. 14, 2019: now it says the latest update was August 22, 2019 - but it didn't fix any of the issues. What was the update?
Failing to send texts when using the extension button
