Speech to Text (Voice Recognition) is an extension that helps you convert your speech to text by using two different speech recognition engines.
The 1st engine is the HTML5 native web speech API for audio transcribing. It is active in most modern browsers by default (more info: https://webaudio.github.io/web-speech-api/). The 2nd API is the Whisper AI engine, which uses a new artificial intelligence method to transcribe audio (more info: https://huggingface.co/onnx-community/whisper-base). Please note that when you choose Whisper AI, the app needs to download training data (~280MB) for the AI engine. So please be patient while the app is loading.
Both engines can recognize a wide variety of languages and related dialects. To work with this extension, simply open the addon's UI and then press on the big microphone icon to start converting your voice to text. Please note that, when the add-on is first started, it asks for microphone permission. Please accept the permission to start working with the add-on. All the captured text is placed in the top text area within the interface. To copy the text, use the (Ctrl + C) keyboard combination. This add-on has no background activities when it is closed.
Note: The Whisper AI engine, once loaded, can work fully offline. Moreover, you can drag and drop an audio file to start transcribing. Please note that this feature is not available for the Web Speech API. If you want to use an audio file for transcribing, please break it into small audio chunks (around a few minutes) as the AI engine runs locally in your browser and is limited in memory and processing power; therefore, it is not capable of handling large audio files.

Super helpful if you don't want to type everything. It works very well in my own language (Dutch) and saves a lot of time on typing.
Superb for hindi voice to text speech i,m impress.
When opened the application appears as a separate pop out window and continues to transcribe in the background without interfering with the use of other tabs or applications. No punctuation and occasional transcription mistakes, but on par with other high quality dictation apps. There seems to be a transcription limit of just under 800 words upon opening, which reduces to just under 400 after continuous use without restart (about 6-8 minutes and 2-4 minutes respectively with a fast talking professor). Once the limit is reached transcription ends despite the microphone remaining on and the preexisting text must be copied to a separate application and cleared before dictation can begin again. When the microphone is turned on there is also a slight buffer period before dictation begins so the app is not ideal for catching long strings of information without breaks. Otherwise an amazing STT app. Highly recommend if length of recording or occasional pauses aren't a concern.

(Día 1 usando la extensión) Por el momento me sirve, funciona bien en español, pero hay inconvenientes: - si dejan de hablar por 10 segundos, la grabación se detiene - si ya hay texto en la ventana y le dan clic en grabar nuevamente, el texto anterior se borra Sin embargo, sabiendo todo esto, va perfecto (Day 1 using the extension) For now, it works fine in Spanish, but there are drawbacks: - if you stop talking for 10 seconds, the recording stops - if there is already text in the window and you click record again, the previous text is deleted However, knowing all this, it works perfectly
