1. Before you do anything, back up your bookmarks using xMarks bookmark manager. You MUST backup using xMarks FIRST, make sure you get a backup of your existing Chrome bookmarks. 2. Then turn off chrome 'auto sync of bookmarks' found under settings in chrome (this is what causes duplication issues). 3. Once you have a secure xMarks copy of your chrome bookmarks in their cloud, then you are ready to install and use iCloud bookmarks (which will keep your Safari and Chrome browsers synced). I recommend using iCloud bookmarks only with Chrome & not with Firefox or Internet Explorer. Instead use xMarks to sync with these browsers.....(because xMarks web browser makes it a lot easier to tidy up any merges or duplications; & it avoids iCloud bookmarks setting up multiple 'bookmark folders' per browser....you only want one bookmark folder, not one for every browser (which iCloud bookmarks will create) 4. When first using iCloud bookmarks, it will merge your chrome and safari bookmarks (or an option is given to override chrome with your iCloud existing bookmarks), so you will need to do some sorting if you expect to keep both browser's bookmarks. Tidy them up on Chrome or Safari and check they are both syncing across nicely. iCloud can be a bit slow (logging out and back into your iOS can help a stuck sync). 5. Once happy with how your bookmarks look, sync one way up to xMarks server. Do not auto-sync or 'merge'(or you will mess up all your tidying up work). Find the opton in xMarks that says 'sync one way to the server & replace server bookmarks'. 6. Now you will have bookmarks held in xMarks and iCloud. Better safe than frustrated, like so many reviews on here. Again, use both xMarks and iCloud & you will get out of any trouble a lot easier.

Ridiculous. Constantly makes multiple duplicates across devices, sometimes seems to alter the URLs. Waste of time. Might be an iCloud problem (rather than this extension) since other devices create a mess too.

bookmarks sync was good before. now it is not working, when i open icloud in windows to merge this extension, bookmarks select and deselect option not shows or am unable to click and select it.

I used this for a couple of years and it worked fine. But the last month or two it stopped syncing properly, dropping bookmarks added in Safari. Just now, it completely wiped out all the iCloud bookmarks. Luckily I still had a good copy in Chrome. Google should remove this from the Chrome Web Store.

This extension single-handedly ruined over a decade of bookmarks data with just one sync. As a result of installing this, duplicate older versions of folders started re-spawning themselves. It became rather difficult to tell which to re-delete and which to keep. Seeing how unreliable this extension is, all the fixes have to be done on Safari for OS X. Safari's UI for bookmarks is rather horrible, which makes the experience that much worse. I googled around and found that restoring a previous version of ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist via Time Machine (have to show invisible folders to see Library) could bring back the right bookmarks. The trouble was iCloud would stubbornly restore the mucked up bookmarks anyway. With some manual work, I was able to delete the duds by restoring Bookmarks.plist and quickly expanding all the good folders before the bad ones got downloaded. As soon as the duplicates would appear, they'd be collapsed. Thus, I could target them for deletion. Sometimes even those that got deleted would re-spawn. I'd have to add a new bookmark somewhere to force a sync and purge the deleted bookmarks once and for all. This was for about 10 MB of bookmarks data. The fixed version wasn't 100% like the one before, but it was close enough. I'm not enitrely sure how iCloud syncs its bookmarks on the back-end. Does it replace Bookmarks.plist wholesale on each device? Does it minimize network traffic by only doing a diff and replace between each Bookmarks.plist? This extension makes me think a diff is happening, and a bad one at that. What a waste of time. If Apple can't make this work reliably on Windows don't even bother releasing it.

This extension simply sucks! It messed my Chrome bookmarks many times until I figured out it must be wiped out from all of my devices. And I thought iTunes is the worst software on Earth...
