High Contrast lets you browse the web with your choice of several high-contrast color filters designed to make it easier to read text.
When you install this extension, all pages are "inverted", so black becomes white and white becomes black. Press the "browser action" icon in the toolbar to toggle it on and off, or customize your settings on a per-site basis. Use a convenient keyboard shortcut to quickly change your settings while your browse.
Other extensions try to change the default colors, but this ends up breaking many popular websites. Only this extension applies filters to your page that invert almost everything - the only exception is photos, which are left alone.
Also note that the Chrome web store and other built-in pages like the New Tab page and Settings pages are unaffected - extensions like this one are not allowed to modify them, by design.

Which is better.
It conflicts with the short key command for italics. And pictures still get inverted. But in general, it's been useful.
I use this extension for DuoLingo. I tried DuoLingo a couple of years back, but I quickly gave up on it because I hated the gray text on a gray background, and the generally faded appearance. I hate it when design takes precedence over usability. High Contrast makes it possible for me to use, and even enjoy, DuoLingo. The downside is that the pictures of objects (in the early lessons) are very dark and sometimes hard to make out. I think that is quite minor. If you use DuoLingo, or some other site where the color scheme makes it hard to read, I strongly recommend High Contrast. It remembers where you have used it, so it doesn't get in the way of other sites. Edit [September 2018] The High Contrast extension no longer works reliably. Sometimes my DuoLingo page is in high contrast, sometimes it isn't, sometimes resizing the window changes whether it is in high contrast mode, usually it doesn't. I'm keeping the extension because I find DuoLingo unusable without it.

Some of the web pages are very faint,poor contrast. This extension really accentuates faint print and is easy on the eyes with dark background, GREAT!
As usual, doesnt work for the opinionated google pages, and just works on a section of the page not on the whole browser as such
