📌 What is the Process Feedback extension?
The Process Feedback extension is for teachers and students. It pulls the edit history of a Google Docs document and turns that history into a writing process report.
In the process report, you can explore copy-paste events, the frequency and timing of breaks taken, typing fluency, time spent on each paragraph, time allocated to revision compared to initial drafting, and total typing time.

I teach college writing, and I have an assignment called "awkward conversations" where students must prove they didn't use AI to write a paper. The students who use Process Feedback to show their process can do this in a matter of seconds; the students who try alternative methods take much, much longer and are less confident in their proof. My students feel empowered to have conversations when there are questions of AI use due to Process Feedback, and I'm excited to move on to using it for other purposes next quarter.
I just ran across this and it has already saved me from having to search to see what my students are doing - it is an awesome tool to show exactly what the students are working and the time spent working. I love this and am so thankful it is free. I need to figure more out and would love to see it show me where students are accessing the information from.
This is an amazing tool for teachers! It is so easy to use and offers a useful snapshot of data about your student's writing process. A must have!
keep up the good work, very quick and helpful way to get flagged about potential student AI misuse
It allows for a quick and easy way to see how much time my students have put towards assignments!
Love being able to see what the process is for writing. Also helps to see how long it takes for the writing to take place. Strongly encourage the use of this program.
The options of a basic or detailed report are great. It really provides an inside look to the writing process and is a valuable tool for both students and educators.
Excellent, detailed reports really give insight and introspection to the writing process. It is a tool for students and teachers to examine their process. Of course, it is tool to help accountability for students in a world of AI, but the word count tools and tracking changes features help students reflect and revise their writing habits.
It’s great to have a free program that lets us see the detailed process of how students write their reports. In today’s world, this kind of tool is extremely useful. The analysis doesn’t take as much time as expected, and the program records valuable information such as the total writing time, the number of revisions, and typing speed. In particular, when the typing speed is abnormally fast, the tool provides TP so that we can directly locate that part. By pressing the play button, we can even watch the entire writing process as a video. Thanks to the comprehensive analysis, we can easily identify unusual points without having to watch the whole writing video.
This is by far the best tool I have found to take an in-depth look at student writing, sift through a ton of data, and, of course, disincentivize student cheating and AI use among my high school English students. I'm so glad this is free, unlike some of the other extensions that switched to a pay mode after we'd already been using them.
