This extension adds a button to your browser toolbar. Click the translate icon whenever you want to translate the page you're visiting.
The extension also automatically detects if the language of a page you're on is different from the language you're using for your Google Chrome interface. If it is, a banner appears at the top of the page. Click the Translate button in the banner to have all the text on the page appear in the new language.

I really wish to be able to pre-set language, like in Android app. Or at least to have a reasonable prioritization: sometimes when I enter a word in Spanish, too often I get translation from way less common languages, like Catalan, Galician or Esperanto! Even if translation from Spanish is available too and delivered when I select language by myself. And if my entry in wrong for Spanish - then leave it like English to English - don't try to "translate" it from Swedish or Swahili.

what happened to the popups? The first image shows that you can get popups in place. Now, all that happens is that you get redirected to a new tab. super annyoing
I want to translate text that I type from English to another language without leaving the page I'm in. But this poor thing only translates text to english, so I type in english and I get the result in english. Useless.
Extraordinarily helpful, but the auto-detect is certainly lacking. I use it almost exclusively to translate Chinese text and more than 50% of the time it auto-detects a sentence of simplified Chinese characters as Vietnamese. Because of this extremely common occurrence, one major improvement they could make is to add an option in the settings to set the default language to one a specific one. This would be a great help.
