This extension adds a button to your browser toolbar. Click the translate icon whenever you want to translate the page you're visiting.
The extension also automatically detects if the language of a page you're on is different from the language you're using for your Google Chrome interface. If it is, a banner appears at the top of the page. Click the Translate button in the banner to have all the text on the page appear in the new language.

UPDATE(v1.2): Now you can change the extension options to enable automatic translation or prevent the banner automatically popped up for specified languages and web sites.

Not content to just ruin their phone apps, Google now turns to ruining the Google Translate Chrome extension. It used to put an icon in the URL bar if it sensed a different language, so it could easily offer to translate it for me. Or at least, I could click the extension, and it would allow me an option to translate the web page. But lately, it hasn't offered translating at all, and when I click on it, the popup looks generic and featureless, like a cheap knockoff, and offers me only a manual text entry bar, and a "Translate this page" link that looks out of place. And if I click on that... Nothing happens. If I copy and paste the URL into the text entry box, it does NOT translate said webpage, but offers me an English to English translation of the URL, which is of course just the same and can't even be clicked on. Gee, thanks. So the only way to translate websites now, if it doesn't offer to, is the old fashioned way of going to the Google Translate website. Though THAT has also been updated such that the top bar again looks generic and poor, and it completely ruins the formatting, so text is all scrunched in a thin column here or scattered willy-nilly there, indexes are broken, things are out of order, etc. Even on a simple site like Wikipedia. The only saving grace is that you can select small blocks of text, and the little Translate icon will appear next to it, which you can then click to translate the selected text. That is fantastic, and so convenient and useful! .....I'll bet the next update they'll remove or break that too. :( Gotta conform to the theme, after all, and Google's currently spreading theme is utter ruin.

I use google translate all the time, so this is helpful to me :)
This translator is very good but my biggest problem with it is that I'm consistently translating the same language & it regularly autodetects other languages & I have to manually change it, please give an option to have preferences on the autodetecter
Это позорище Google. 1. Вы прикрепили иконку на панели плагинов, при нажатии появиться всплывающее окно где можно ввести слово для перевода, НО... ...в настройках можно выбриать только 1 родной язык и всё будет переводиться только на него. Если указать Русский, то любое введенное слово на русском языке будет переведено на ... русский. "тут бурные авации" Кому нужен такой переводчик? Сделайте переключатель как на странице транслейта или выпадающий список, или в настройках укажите с какого на какой язык и обратно предпочёл бы пользователь переводить, сделайте свитчер наконец. 2. На странице https://stackoverflow.com/questions/29168719/can-you-target-an-elements-parent-element-using-event-target в присере кода всплывёт иконка, а в комментарии нет.
