From personal experience, I find that reworking the problem on my own, without seeing the answer, led me to better understand what I should look for in the passage, where I went wrong, and the AAMC logic. This led me to develop the AAMC Review Mode extension. This extension is made for students using the AAMC Official Prep resources, specifically the Full-Length practice exams, to get the most out of their review sessions. By default, when you open a question during review, the correct answer, your previous answer, and the full explanation are immediately visible, which means your brain passively reads the answer rather than actively working through the question again. This can lead to a more inefficient and thorough review and causes you to miss the chance to diagnose why you got it wrong, whether it was a content gap, a misunderstanding of the passage, a timing mistake, or a reasoning error. MCAT Review Mode blocks the correct answer and explanation from appearing when you open a review question. This gives you a chance to rework each problem again before revealing anything. Three buttons are available on the right side of the screen: "Show My Answer" will show only the answer you chose during the exam so you can reflect on your original reasoning, "Show Correct Answer" reveals the correct answer alongside your previous answer so you can compare, and "Show Answer & Explanation" reveals everything including your answer, the correct answer, and the full AAMC explanation. Review Mode is on by default when the extension is installed and can be toggled off at any time from the popup window if you want to return to the normal AAMC review experience. This extension is built for students using AAMC Full-Length exams who want to treat their review sessions as active learning opportunities.
