Wer ein WordPress-Plugin installieren möchte, macht sich in der Regel zuvor einige Gedanken über die Aktualität, die Kompatibilität, die Frequenz der Updates, die Anzahl der Installationen und nicht zuletzt über die abgegebenen Rezensionen. Auf den Plugin-Seiten des WordPress-Repositoriums wird je Plugin ein Balkendiagramm über die Gesamtanzahl der abgegebenen Reviews inklusive einer Bewertungsskala angezeigt. Leider sind diese Informationen nicht wirklich aussagekräftig, denn sie geben den Durchschnitt der gesamten Zeit wieder. Existiert ein Plugin beispielsweise bereits 10 Jahre in der Repository und hatte in den ersten drei Jahren durchweg positive, in den darauffolgenden Jahren jedoch wenige, dafür aber kontinuierlich schlechte Bewertungen, ergibt sich aus dem WordPress-Balkendiagramms darauf kein Hinweis. Genau hier kommt die Chrome-Erweiterung "WordPress Plugin Rating Trends" ins Spiel. Mithilfe eines Liniendiagramms werden die Auf- und Abwärtstrends sowie Konstanten der abgegebenen Rezensionen der letzten 12 Monate angezeigt. Geht eine Kurve deutlich nach unten, wird es Zeit, näher nachzuforschen. Die Monate mit negativen Bewertungen sind schnell in den Plugin-Reviews auffindbar und somit auch die Gründe für den Negativtrend.
