Namida OCR is a local Chrome extension that delivers fast, offline text recognition with Tesseract.js, plus an optional TTS feature for Japanese text.
- Snip & OCR: Press Alt + Q on Windows or Option + Q on Mac to snip any region of the page containing Japanese text (vertical).
- Furigana: Choose from either Hiragana or Katakana phonetic pronunciation of Kanji.
- Clipboard & TTS: The recognized text is automatically copied to your clipboard and can also be spoken aloud using Chrome’s built-in voices, including high-quality remote Japanese voices.
- Privacy-Focused: No external servers are used. All OCR and (optional) up-scaling happen locally in your browser.
- Tensorflow Upscaling: Select Tensorflow for sharper text in challenging images, or opt for faster linear up-scaling.

This extension works great! Sure there are some mistakes with the translation from time to time, but being able to use the yomitan extension along with this extension is a huge help!
doesnt work. the keybinds did not help. no way to even start the clipping process
Not able to extract the text correctly. 95% of the time it fetches the incorrect text :(

Nothing happens when you try to snip text (tried everything including changing the keybinds). Could just be me though. I really hope there is a fix to this as this extension seems really helpful.
