ChromeDE (or Chrome Development Git) is a lightweight development environment built to run entirely in your browser (Kinda). It provides a simple, Chromebook-friendly interface for editing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other text-based files. With a built-in code editor, file browser, and console, ChromeDE is designed to let you quickly write, edit, and preview code — all without installing traditional desktop IDEs.
Why it’s not a Chrome App
Google has removed support for Chrome Apps on most platforms, which is why ChromeDE is delivered as a browser extension instead. While it runs in Chrome or Chromium-based browsers, it is optimized for Chromebooks for the best experience.
How to use
Click the ChromeDE extension icon in your browser toolbar to open the IDE in a new window. From there, you can open folders, edit files, and use the built-in console to view output.
Inspect the latest comments and rating distribution.
